Annie & Mary Rail Trail
The passing of the National Trails System Act by Congress in 1983 established “railbanking” which legally allows for the preservation of rail corridors for future rail use while allowing interim use of the corridor. There is wide community and jurisdictional support for the railbanking of the Arcata and Mad River Railroad corridor for interim use as the Annie and Mary Trail. This regional trail system will link two cities, tribal land and multiple communities in the unincorporated area in between. The first phase of the project includes due diligence efforts to be completed prior to railbanking filing with the State Transportation Board (STB).
